Today MSDH is releasing updated Public Health Guidance for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 in Mississippi K-12 settings for the 2021-2022 school year – consistent with CDC guidelines.

The Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus held a Pinning Ceremony for the Surgical Technology Class of 2021 on June 24 in the McGowan Workforce Training Center. Five students were honored.  

The Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project (MVLP) is co-sponsoring a free Family Law  Clinic to assist low income Hinds County residents with their legal matters. The clinic is Friday, July  30, 9:00 a.m., at the Hinds County Chancery Court (316 S. President Street, Jackson, MS-3rd Floor). 

The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) passed two policies that call for all school districts to resume in-person instruction as the primary mode of teaching starting in the 2021-22 school year. The policies set requirements for districts that choose to offer a virtual learning option to individual students and establish standards for virtual learning days.

In order to accommodate busy parents gearing up for the new school year, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) will host a one-stop shop for required school entry/registration forms.

To ensure the health and safety of their students, Canton Public School District partnered with G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center to provide Tdap vaccines to entering seventh-grade students. 

Terry Vandeventer, “The Snake Man” shared his Living Reptile Museum with young Canton Library patrons on June 16 as part of Tails and Tales Summer Reading Theme.  Live snakes were presented in a fun and safe manner for all to see.
