Canton High School scholars Ahniya Myers, Rashad Anderson, and Erin Nichols recently became members of Canton High School’s ACT 25 and Above Club.
Students are required to have an ACT composite score of at least 25 or higher. This helps them qualify to attend esteemed institutions of higher learning and receive funds to assist with college expenses. Students can receive an academic scholarship of $1,000 for an ACT composite score of 25 or above and $1,500 in leadership money, for a total of $2,500 The CHS ACT 25 and Above Club was established by Dr. Pamela Self in the 2015-2016 school year, during the first year of her tenure as principal of Canton High School. The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. It is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test administered by ACT, Inc.
The purpose of the ACT is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside high school GPA, the classes taken in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, extracurricular activities, admissions interviews, and personal essays.
