Special to The Canton News

Canton Lions say they have enjoyed some very interesting programs lately, beginning with Dr. Clay Quarterman, founding President of the Evangelical Reform Seminary of Ukraine, Julene Stewart of Fidelity Mortgage and Adam Moore of 4 Corner Properties, Kevin Brown of Mississippi Farm Bureau, and Supervisor Paul Griffin.  Lions President Tamika Liddell welcomes community members to come and experience Lions at the Canton Country Club each Wednesday from noon until 1 p.m., and be part of one of the town’s long-time civic clubs.

The Lions hosted the Herb Power Award, which was established in Power’s honor and pays tribute to his desire to serve his fellow man.  Nominees for the award exemplify Power’s spirit of leadership, dedication and a Lion’s heart for service in keeping with the Lions’ mission.  Canton optometrist Dr. Jimbo Bearden shared with the dinner group how he partners with the Lions to make glasses available to those in need as the program for the night.  During the ceremony, the Lions named Joy Foy as the 2023 Herb Power Award Honoree.

Cantonians are encouraged to mark their calendars for the Lions Chicken BBQ on May 5. Lions will be selling tickets for $15/each. Plates can be picked up with a drive through at First United Methodist Church Canton (3301 South Liberty Street) from 4 until 6 p.m.
