In an effort to curb violent crimes, a curfew is in effect in Canton for the next two weeks for all residents under the age of 18 years old. The curfew mandates that children must be off the streets by 8:00 p.m. unless they are accompanied by their parents.
“We have had a large amount of gun violence amongst our young people recently in Canton. We put the curfew in place because we want to deter our young people from being on the streets with no purpose. We are looking for those loitering and out driving around without a destination. We have never done this before but want to try it for a couple of weeks in the hopes that we can keep our young people safe,” said Truly.
“This does not include those who are attending school social events or church social events. There is security at these events, and they are at functions where we hope they will remain safe,” he added.
“It’s better to have a child with a gun off the streets and we are going to do everything we can to ensure we get this gun violence under control and stopped by protecting the young people of Canton,” said Truly.
The Canton Police Department will enforce this curfew.
