CPSD wins Lighthouse and Torch awards

The Canton Public School District (CPSD) was recently awarded the Mississippi School Boards Association’s 2023 Lighthouse School Leader Lantern and Torch Awards at its 51st annual conference.


CPSD Superintendent Gary Hannah and Board of Trustees Secretary Dr. Shivochie Dinkins accepted the awards on behalf of the district.


School districts that earned a “B” rating under the Mississippi Department of Education Accountability Performance Ratings received the Lantern Award.


Torch Awards were awarded to districts that met the following criteria: districts rated “C” or higher; 90% or greater district students participate in the federal free/reduced lunch program; at least one school rated “B”; and no schools rated “F.”
