Christmas Poem: Another Night Before Christmas

Christmas Poem: Another Night Before Christmas

By Diane Roure’ Pleasant

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through our house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse,

The Children were restless asleep in their beds,
Visions of Atari raced through their heads.

Papa in tight 'whities' and I in my gown,
were hoping for sleep when the kids settled down.

About two a.m. I alarmedly woke,
It seemed that my water had suddenly broke!

The baby to be a January birth
was making its way beyond my girth.

From a sleep that was sound I aroused my honey,
who asked if I was being funny.

Like a flash to the phone he flew right away,
To ask his mother to come without a delay.

Before she arrived, we packed in the car.
She wanted to know "Have you gone very far?"

"Far enough," said I, "If you don't close this door,
You’ll have to deliver, our child number four!"

To the car, to the Hospital we went in a zoom,
Then up to the nurse in the laboring room.

"Is the doctor here yet?", I asked the nurse.
"There’s plenty of time,". She said with a curse.

"The baby is crowning, I've done this before."
She looked, then shouted, And ran out the door.

Rushed to delivery before they could doubt,
a nine pound baby was already out!

Everything went as smooth as could be.
Christmas morning they sent home baby and me.

The children were happy their mother was home,
But their joy was quickly Changed to a moan.

They all looked at me and their mouths went all guppy,
“A baby is nice, But we wanted a puppy!”
