One day a rich dad took his son out of the big city to the farm land to give him reasons and the value of getting an education being rich.
He wanted his son to see how desperate a poor family lived so he would strive to follow in his footsteps.
They spent the whole day with the poor family and were invited to stay over for the evening meal.
At the close of day, they thanked their kind hosts for their hospitality and headed for home and their mansion behind the gated community in town.
As they rode along, the dad asked his young son, "Did you see how poor that family was, what did you learn?"
The boy said, "We have one dog, they have four.
We have a pool and they have a river.
We buy food, they grow theirs.
We have street lights at night, they have stars.
We have walls to protect us, they have friends.
We have encyclopedias, they have a Bible.
Thanks dad for showing me how poor we really are."
Moral of the story:
It's not the balance in our check book that makes us rich.
It's about the simplicity of having God in our lives.
The last words my old preacher dad said to me on his dying bed the night he passed from this life to the next was, "Son, don't forget the simplicity in Christ Jesus."
My parents had a simple life but it required them to climb up the rough side of the mountain.
But they made it to that holy hill.
This post will not be complete without the question of all questions being asked and being answered.
{A Psalm of David.} LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.
In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.
He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved. (Psalm 15)
This narrative is placed especially for me to remember what dad said.
The real values of life are not complicated or off in some mystery to be unraveled.
David echoes the Apostle Paul over in the New Testament. "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” 2 Cor. 11:3
My dad was warning me if Satan could trip up our original parents and talk them out of Paradise and the angels out of Heaven, he can talk me off that Holy Hill.
This is all we ever need to know.
Mike, just keep it simple.
God bless you and God bless America.
