After losing a large group of seniors, the Canton Academy softball girls have big shoes to fill. We’ve only just begun an amazing season with our new coach, Megan Cummins.
Even with losing the older girls, we have had many girls step up in the roll.
Sophomore Gates Welch said, “Being around older girls has allowed me to mature faster in the game of softball. Now that I’m the oldest, and the girls younger than me have not always had the same discipline as me, I have to remind myself to keep calm and just be the person to keep them positive and not get down on themselves. I think that my friends that I have met through playing softball have kept me going the most. I love playing this sport with some of my best friends. Although I say I want to quit a lot, I constantly have my friends being positive for me.”
With our new coach, Megan Cummins, the girls have lots to learn.
We asked Coach Meg what it was like having such a small team with young girls, and she said, “I enjoy having a young team. The girls work so hard for me and their teammates. With them being so young, it is exciting to see what comes next. Everyone has done such an amazing job helping me get started here, and all the encouraging words are very appreciated.”
