Some want a Heisman, some want a Superbowl ring; the Canton Academy cheerleading squad wants the Banana. At the Universal Cheerleader Association (UCA) Camp at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), the squad was awarded the Banana Award, which is given to the school that shows the most spirit throughout the entire week. CA has won the Banana for six years in a row.
Captain of the squad Reese Willis said, “For the past five years, CA has had the honor of bringing home the banana, a huge spirit award at camp. With more competition than the previous years, I knew, as captain, that we had to step it up. From day one, my squad brought the spirit, great attitudes, and outstanding work ethic, and, as captain, that’s all you can ask for. This was by far my favorite camp. I was able to make everlasting friendships with each of my squad members, which was probably my favorite part - besides winning the banana. I definitely couldn’t have done it without them and can’t wait to see what the season has in store for us.”
