Father Mike O’Brien honored with Mass of Thanksgiving

Ordained in 1972, Father Mike O’Brien of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton came to the United States from Ireland as a young boy to answer the call of a “Missionary State,” Mississippi. 

Recently, a Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated at Sacred Heart, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Father O’Brien. 

Bishop Joseph Kopacz, priests and religious leaders from across the Diocese of Jackson were present to celebrate the joyous occasion. The Mass of Thanksgiving was streamed on Facebook Live, and the entire community was invited to attend. 

Following the mass, there was a reception celebrating Father Mike on his Golden Jubilee as well as his upcoming retirement.
