Biggers wins HCC Contest

By Courtney Warren

English instructor Dr. Andrew Kelly announced the winners of the 2022 Creative Writing Contest for the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus. All winners receive cash prizes furnished by the Holmes Foundation. First and second place winners are forwarded to the Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association Contest and will be published in Holmes’ literary magazine, Reflections.

In the Short Story Category, Bethany Biggers of Canton won first for “You Can Make Anything Look Like an Accident.”

Biggers’ story, “You Can Make Anything Look Like an Accident,” is about a high school girl named Hallie who gets stalked by a guy, and one of them ends up dead. With a criminal and thriller elements, Biggers said, “I have always loved writing and how it allows you to vividly express your story to many people without ever meeting them. I had always wanted to write my own story, and, when I saw Holmes was holding a creative writing contest, I thought I would give it a chance.”
