Community pastors receive double honor

Special to The Canton News

Joe and Kathy Amos recently received their second Honorary Doctorate degrees from Destiny School of Ministry and Bible College, Mendenhall, Mississippi. Dr. Joe received a degree of humanities, and Dr. Kathy received her degree of philosophy in the Ecclesial Business Administration. The couple was awarded the degrees because of their leadership in both business and ministry, as well as their service to the public for a combined total of sixty-three years. Dr. Vinessa Rockingham, Chancellor, wanted to bestow the honor before their end of the year graduation. They agreed to present the doctorates to them at their local church, Turning Point Fellowship Min. Intl. Church on Union Street.

In 2020, the couple received their doctorates in ministry, as well as an honorary doctorates from Chayil International University in Brookfield, Wisconsin. After graduating, they focused on building their Christian Chamber of Commerce “Business Empowered Mississippi,” which grew to where they had to expand into an international chamber. Joe and Kathy also started a new ministry called “The Gathering Place” in Clinton, Mississippi. They still oversee their first church, Turning Point Fellowship Ministries International Church, pastored by Clara Thompson.
