At the February meeting, the Canton Garden Club voted unanimously to make Keep Canton Beautiful a division of The Canton Garden Club. Club member Judy Miller will direct the program.
For many years, the Canton Garden Club has endeavored to beautify our town. By accepting the Keep Canton Beautiful affiliation, the club will benefit from resources available through Keep Mississippi Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful, as well as Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. and National Garden Club, Inc. Opportunities for grants, training and other resources will be used to enhance projects already in place and new projects in the works.
The Garden Clubs of Mississippi president’s theme for 2021-2023 is “Garden Clubs make things happen.” The Canton Garden Club is making things happen! Perhaps you have seen the club at work around the Square. Flowerpots have been cleaned and refreshed, and over six hundred daffodils have been planted. Canton will be beautiful this spring.
However, our city has a problem. LITTER! Beautiful flowers won’t hide the litter. It’s time for spring cleaning. The garden club is sponsoring The Great Canton Clean Up on March 26, 2022, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. This project is in keeping with the Keep America Beautiful Great American CleanUp, an effort to unify and beautify communities across the nation through a grassroots spring cleaning movement.
Local civic and service organizations, churches, school groups, businesses and elected officials will be asked to partner with Canton Garden Club as we clean up our parks, streets and public spaces through litter removal. Please say yes when asked to participate.
The Great Canton CleanUp will kick off in front of the Canton Tourism Center at 8:45 on Saturday, March 26. Work teams will be formed to beautify our public spaces. Bring your gloves and litter grabbers (if you have them). All other supplies will be provided.
Let’s clean up, green up, and fix up our city! Together, we can accomplish much.
