Panthers represented during All-Star game

Panthers represented during All-Star game

By Courtney Warren
The football season ended with the Canton Academy (CA) Panthers earning runner-up at the State Championship game against the Greenville Christian Saints; however, for three seniors, there was one game left.
The MSAIS 1-3A All-Star game was described as an honor for all who coach and play.
The process begins with the choosing of coaches. Reviewing stats from each senior in the district, the coaches then draft the players they deem deserving of the title “All-Star.”
Once the players are selected, teams are then drafted.
Representing Canton Academy on the blue team this year was Marcus Goodloe at safety, Jordan Price at defensive end, and Barnes Wadford at inside linebacker.
Almost fifteen years ago, CA alum Brett Warren was drafted as a linebacker for the all-star game. This year he was a coach during the all-star game for the blue team.
Warren, defensive assistant coach said, “These boys played very well. It’s always a pleasure to coach boys with passion and respect for the game.”
“It was awesome to coach in the all-star game. You always treasure your high school football days, and I loved my time playing as a Panther. It was great to be able to coach a few Panthers during this game, along with my own boys.”
Warren is now the athletic director and assistant football coach at Benton Academy, who fell short of a district championship after losing two starting stand-out athletes, including senior Caden Stevens.
For the Panthers, ending their high school career in the all-star game was icing on the cake after their own successful season.
Panthers Head Football Coach Gage Posey said, “I was very proud of all of these boys. Marcus played through an injury. They enjoyed all of the players and coaches. I hate that they came up short, but they showed out and represented Canton Academy very well.”
