City Spotlight: Constable Johnny Sims

City Spotlight: Constable Johnny Sims

By Inesha Jackson
Constable Johnny Sims is proudly serving others in the community with civility and respect. Sims has been the proud husband of former alderwoman Daphne Johnson Sims for twenty-six years. In his personal life, he serves as a deacon at his church, Greater Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, in Canton, Mississippi.
Before accepting his current role, Sims worked as a firefighter for the City of Canton. He is now a retired fire chief and is currently serving as the Madison County Constable for District 2. As Constable, he distributes warrants, subpoenas, evictions, and other legal documents.
Sims credits his grandfather for inspiring him to get into this line of work by encouraging him to find a job that he would enjoy and work hard at. Constable Johnny Sims has served in the Madison County area for over twenty-five years. According to Constable Sims, the best part of the job is serving other people. His love for God, family, and friends keeps him motivated on the job as Constable.
Sims’ favorite motto to live by is to treat people the way you want to be treated.
“The people in Canton can learn that honesty, having a heart to give, and being hard working always pays off,” Constable Johnny Sims said.
