Robinson recognized for decades of coaching

Robinson recognized for decades of coaching

By Courtney Warren

During the 2021 football season, Canton Academy (CA) recognized an invaluable patron, coach, and friend of the school - Coach Glen Robinson. Coach Robinson spent countless volunteer hours coaching and cheering on Panther football teams for many years. Coach Robinson’s grandsons, senior Chaney Hale and eighth grader Rhett Hale, presented their grandfather with a Canton Academy helmet signed by his beloved Panther football team and coaches.

Coach Robinson’s daughter Shea Hale said, “Being honored by CA at this season’s last home game was so special for my dad. The smile on his face and the tears in his eyes when presented with the signed helmet is something I’ll never forget, and to make the moment even sweeter, my boys were asked to present the helmet to him. My dad has loved Panther football for as long as I can remember.

“It’s always so much fun to hear stories of him coaching through the years from those whose lives he touched along the way. I’m so grateful to Canton Academy and to Coach McCarty for making the special night happen for my dad,” said Hale.

Robinson started coaching baseball in Canton for Dixie Youth in the early 1970’s and then coached football at Canton Ccademy from 1980-2003. Once at CA, Robinson coached peewee football in 1980 and assisted with junior high and varsity football as offensive line coach until 2003. He was offensive line coach under head coaches Glenn Boyce, Doug Grantham, and Flip Godfrey. He coached at CA during three of CA’s four state titles and seven of CA’s district titles.

Coach Robinson was thanked immensely for his lifetime of service to the team and school. He is loved by many for his dedication and patronage.
