Run the Rainbow for Children’s moving to Sunday

Run the Rainbow for Children’s moving to Sunday

Run the Rainbow for Children’s, the marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K benefiting Children’s of Mississippi, is moving to Sunday because of the risk of severe storms Saturday morning.

The start times for the USA Track & Field-certified race remain the same, said race director Selena Daniel.

“Our top priority is keeping runners and our volunteers safe,” Daniel said. “We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate everyone’s understanding and flexibility.”

The race, with more than 1,500 runners, also has scores of volunteers who serve as course marshals, provide water to participants and cheer them on. The courses start at Hal & Mal’s in downtown Jackson, with the 10K, half marathon and marathon routes passing through Belhaven and onto the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus.

Last year, Run the Rainbow for Children’s raised $135,975.44 to benefit the state’s only children’s hospital.

The race is part of Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade, which is set for March 22 in downtown Jackson.

Runners and volunteers should keep up with Run the Rainbow updates by following the Run the Rainbow for Children’s Facebook page
