The Nomad’s Journey is a striking new art exhibition that explores the deeply human experience of migration, displacement, and resilience. Through a moving collection of paintings, artist Lucia Duque invites viewers to reflect on the universal longing for belonging and the emotional landscapes of those forced to leave their homes.
Inspired by real-life migration stories from Syria, Africa, Ukraine, Central America, and beyond, the exhibition captures the tension between fragility and strength, loss and hope. Using a vibrant palette where abstract and figurative art blend like a poetic layering of transparent colors, the paintings evoke the movement of people across borders, much like birds migrating from the cold of winter to the warmth of spring. The exhibition presents migration not as a statistic but as deeply personal narratives filled with courage and determination.
“My work seeks to build bridges of empathy,” says Lucia Duque. “Each piece in The Nomad’s Journey tells a story of struggle, perseverance, and the search for a place to call home.”
The exhibition will be held at The Arts Center of Mississippi from April 4 to April 27, with an opening reception on April 4 at 5:30 PM. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore these poignant artworks and engage in discussions about migration, identity, and human resilience.
