Hunter and Luckett win Dr. MLK Jr essay contest

Hunter and Luckett win Dr. MLK Jr essay contest

Two Canton High School scholars recently won the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Echoes of the Dream” Essay Contest.

The first-place winner, CHS Senior Amya Hunter, received a $1,000 scholarship, while the second-place winner, sophomore Alexandria Luckett, was awarded a $906 scholarship.

Hunter and Luckett had the opportunity to read their winning essays at the MLK Scholarship Gala hosted by the Rho Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, which took place on January 25 at The VenU by Roseburgh.

This contest allowed the scholars to showcase their creativity, critical thinking, and civic awareness. It aimed to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and explore his potential thoughts on contemporary issues. The essay theme was “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Reaction to the 2024 Presidential Election and Voter Engagement.” The students shared their insights on how Dr. King might respond to today’s political landscape, offering wisdom about democracy, voter engagement, and the ongoing journey toward equality. Thanks, Rho Xi Lambda Alphas, for providing our scholars with this excellent opportunity to help reduce college expenses as they pursue their dreams.
