Canton Academy seventh grader Heath Bryan recently placed second in the state of Mississippi for the Farm Bureau essay contest, winning a $75 cash prize. The topic of the essay was, “Why is Agriculture Important?”
Bryan wrote, “Agriculture is important, because it provides food, jobs, and helps protect the environment. That is why we should all appreciate farmers and the hard work they do to make sure we have what we need to live.”
He discussed how agriculture isn’t just growing crops and raising animals; it’s more than that. Agriculture is also the truck drivers who deliver the food people eat, the chefs in the restaurants who are cooking the meals, and all citizens protecting the environment so that everyone can eat tomorrow.
