Recently, the Canton Garden Club ventured off campus for a tour of Georgetown – a family retreat. The Madison County estate of Georgetown is a recreation of a Tennessee farm for the Arnold family to enjoy.
The tour began in the main cabin after a business meeting and refreshments provided by hostesses Kathy Ozborn, Cheryl Melvin and Patty Clark. The whole campground is positioned around a scenic small lake, with music playing from hidden speakers throughout. Music can be heard everywhere.
Two smaller cabins, one named for the grandkids, sit across the grounds. A pretty white church with custom-designed stained-glass windows sits across the lake from the cabins. And then more: a little red barn and an outhouse. Both are really storage sheds, but their facade completes the historic look.
It had the feel of a beautiful and lush secluded property, but, in reality, it fronts Livingston Road and has subdivisions on each side. The Ridgeland bike trail runs through the property, but one gets the feel of farm living. Four guests joined the tour. Next month, we look forward to a demonstration in cement bowl-making.
