Cantonian writes The Forgotten Son

Special to The Canton News

Richard (Gene) Dukes, a former resident of Canton, has always had a creative mind. His book, The Forgotten Son, evolved over several years before publication.

Dukes says he looks forward to completing a sequel called “Jonathan’s Story,” which begins where The Forgotten Son ends. He expressed that he has always enjoyed writing, and his dream came true when he became a published author.

Dukes is a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and served from 1963 to 1969, during the Vietnam era. Most of the basic training part of the story is true, except Dukes was stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and not Fort Hood, Texas. Part of the Vietnam fighting is based on stories from other veterans.

His book, The Forgotten Son, can be purchased on Amazon, as well as from bookstores all over.
