Kickoff the Great American CleanUp!

By Keeping Canton Beautiful Club Member Jessica Stein

The Canton Garden Club hopes you’ve gotten some of the rain passing through this summer! Compared to last year’s drought, we count each drop as a blessing. Now is the time for weeding, watering and planning for fall. You can still start a few vegetables: tomatoes, peppers, beans. Next, think about perennial flowers to seed in the fall, like echinacea and yarrow. It’s also a good time to think ahead and order lettuce, collard, and root vegetable seeds, etc.

In your wider neighborhood, it’s time for The Great American Cleanup, which kicked off July 22. This is a two-year program by Keep America Beautiful, celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Together, we can work for cleaner, safer streets, and make them more attractive while we’re at it.

Keep America Beautiful has calculated that each person picking up 152 pieces of trash would lead to a fully clean nation! The president of KAB says “Our goal of picking up 25 billion pieces of litter and making 25,000 communities even more beautiful is ambitious.”

Please join Keep Canton Beautiful’s efforts locally and follow the program at kab.org. You can also like and follow on social media.
