A piece of history: Otho Robards

According to the Canton-Madison County Historical Society, Otho Robards Singleton is buried in the Canton Cemetery.


Robards was a U.S. Congressman and a Confederate States of America Congressman. Born in Nicholasville, Kentucky, he moved to Mississippi, where he served in the thirty-third Congress (from 1853 to 1855) as well as the thirty-fifth and thirty-sixth Congresses from 1857 until 1861. From 1861 to 1865, he was a representative from Mississippi in the Confederate Congress. Ten years after the Civil War, his constituents once again sent him to the United States Congress, where he served from 1875 to 1887. He died in Washington, D.C.
