The Greater Love Pregnancy care center opens

Special to The Canton News

The Greater Love Pregnancy Care Center is now up and running, serving expectant and new mothers in the community. The center is located at 339 West Peace Street in Canton, in the former Rich Grain Distillery building.

The first phase of the center is a monthly support group, which began on August 3 and typically takes place the first Thursday of every month. Each meeting runs approximately an hour and a half, including refreshment time.

“The support group meetings are designed to build life skills and identify the spiritual applications of the skill,” said co-founder and executive director Fredia Day. “We are currently serving six young moms with a total of eight babies.”

Each attendee receives two passes to shop in the resource room, to be used during that same month. Access to the resource room is by appointment only, after attending that month’s meeting.

The ministry is a non-profit, dependent on donations of new or gently used baby and toddler items from individuals, as well as local businesses.

“The pregnancy resource room is completely community-funded and supported,” said Day. “A  number of churches, agencies, companies and individuals have come alongside us to help  ensure moms have access to the material items they need to care for their babies.”

Organizing and stocking the shelves in the resource room with supplies is essential in serving the clients well.

“We have a wonderful group of volunteers who help with receiving and putting away donations each month,” Day added. “Additional support is always needed and welcomed.”

The 2nd Annual Supporters Luncheon is in the works for spring 2024.
