Garden Club prepares for Upstairs Downtown

Listen to the article

By Garden Club Member Jessica Stein

Monday, October 9, the Canton Garden Club met at the Sacred Heart Parish Center. Hosts Rose Bradford, Cheryl Melvin and Mary Carol Patrick welcomed members for a presentation from non-profit Keep Mississippi Beautiful Director Sarah Kountous. She led a wonderful discussion on options for recycling and wildflower gardening in Canton. According to Sarah, recycling here does work!

The Garden Club also welcomed new members Kathy DeMesa, Mary Ellen Sullivan, Jessica Stein, Mary Margaret Buchanan and Elaine Gager, and offered matching monogrammed aprons for sale. Interested parties can join the club with an invitation from a current member.

Member or not, please add November 2 to your calendar for Upstairs Downtown! This event is held only every two years (odd-numbered) to showcase historical architecture in Canton’s square. Garden Club members beautify the garden beds, decorate the square with colorful pots and garlands, tabulate and take tickets, and help you navigate attractions and refreshments with your complimentary wine glass. We look forward to seeing you!
