The Canton Lions’ have made it through this hot dry summer, and have been entertained with some interesting programs. On August 2, Dr. Vibha Vig talked to the members about the changes in her practice at the Sunshine Medical Clinic. She is a pediatrician working in Canton for years and has been a fellow Lion with the Canton group.
The following week, Madison County Economic Development Authority’s Civil Engineer, Chad Wages, fascinated the group with some unknown recruiting stories of Nissan and an update on the new mega site located along Highway 22 West.
Central District Public Service Commissioner Brent Bailey accepted an invitation to present an update from his office. He brought his wife, Rhonda, and a staff member.
Another recent program was Judge Jim Herring. He talked about his new book, The Switcher.
The Lions voted to sponsor the Canton Garden Club’s upcoming Upstairs Downtown event, supported the Velma Jackson Foundation fundraiser, and offered scholarships to Canton high school seniors. The Lions will also be parking cars at The Day in The Country Festival on September 30 to raise money. These earnings will be used to help ensure that the civic club can continue their support to the community.
The Canton Lions meet every Wednesday at the Canton Country Club at noon. Anyone wishing to be involved in making Canton a better place to live is welcome.
