Canton Gospel presents scholarships and awards

The Canton Gospel Music Association presented eight music scholarships.

The Canton Gospel Music Association presented eight music scholarships to students of the Love and Unity Music Ministry at the annual Scholarship Awards & Gospel Music Celebration on August 27, 2023.  Special guest attendees included Congressman Bennie Thompson of the 2nd Congressional District. 


On hand to receive their certificate and $100 check were: Minister Jearlean Jones (CGMA Vice-president), Abby Woodard (CGMA member), Rev. David Jackson (accepting the award for Wesley Dinkins, Jr.)  Victoria Garrett, Jeremiah Smith, Jaleah Chandler, Layla Garrett, Jorden Whitehead and Kingston Wiley,  LeeAndrea Chandler, Congressman Bennie Thompson and LaJesca Woodard (CGMA member).


Mr. John Henry, 103 years old, was presented the Mayor’s Award by Mayor William Truly. Mr. Henry has been singing for over sixty years. Congressman Bennie Thompson also presented a proclamation on behalf of the 2nd Congressional District.
