This year, 2023, the National Day of Prayer celebrated seventy-two years of prayer for America. The National Day of Prayer is held on the first Thursday of May each year.

The National Day of Prayer observance for the City of Canton was held at the Canton Multipurpose Complex.

According to Day of Prayer Coordinator Kathy Amos, “All were invited to attend as community members united to praise, worship, and pray for the Lord to fill lives, families, churches, workplace, education, military, government, arts, entertainment and media with Biblical, Spirit-empowered love designed and defined by our Creator and Savior.”

A Mayoral Proclamation and Prayer was offered by Mayor Dr. William Truly, Jr.

Among other participants were dignitaries, pastors, and community leaders including Alderman Tim Taylor, Mr. Johnny Brown, CPS School Board President; Canton Police Chief Otha Brown, Pastor Fredia Day, Apostle Clara Thompson, Dr. Flonzie Brown Wright, Dr. Cory Murphy, Pastor John Woodard, Jr., Dr. Glendora Williams, Min. Adrienne Vance, Bishop Adam Sanders, Dr. Joshua A. Cable, and Drs. Fredrick and Wanda Pitts.
