Old Madison County Jail roof repaired

Repairs to the Old Madison County Jail’s roof are in progress, thanks to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH). According to MDAH, the jail is among the most outstanding and best preserved nineteenth-century penal facilities existing in Mississippi. It is also significant as an example of post-Civil War architecture, exhibiting both domestic and institutional characteristics of the period. The jail was constructed by Valentine Warner.
